Meet Rebecca..
Rebecca is a Lumen Prize (2024) nominated movement director, choreographer, teacher and performer from London. She works with actors and performers on stage, screen, performance capture and visual art to develop nuanced character physicality and authentic, expressive embodiment. Her collaborative approach with directors and creative teams is to create a physical language that weaves seamlessly with narrative and immerses the audience more deeply into the world of the characters.
Rebecca has an MA with distinction in Movement Directing and Teaching at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, 2023 and was named “One to watch” by Broadway World in 2022 for movement direction on Ravenscourt at Hampstead Theatre. Rebecca’s background is dance and acting, she trained at The Royal Ballet School, and danced with English National Ballet and internationally. She went on to train as an actor at Giles Foreman Centre for Acting in 2016, which introduced her to the Movement Psychology work of Yat Malmgren and Rudolf Laban. Rebecca is also a highly experienced Pilates teacher, with a specialisation in rehabilitation and somatics.
As a researcher and practitioner in the field of trauma-informed movement practices within directing and teaching spaces, her commitment is to facilitating empathetic, artist-centred, brave spaces. As a neurodivergent artist herself, her creative process is diverse and adaptable, often improvisation based, allowing movement to reveal itself from the artist’s body.
